Privacy & ads
What this site stores, what it sends anywhere else, and how the advertising on it works. In plain language, because a privacy policy nobody can read is not one.

The short version
We do not have an account for you unless you make one
You can use every part of this site without signing in. If you do sign in, it is with Google, and all we receive is the email address on that Google account — we never see your password.
Your saved list stays on your device by default
Buildings you save, notes you write and settings you change are kept in your own browser. They are copied to our database only when you are signed in, so that the same list reaches your other devices.
We never tell advertisers anything about you
We do not sell, share or send your email address, your saved list or your notes to Google or to anyone else. Advertising on this site is explained below, and it works without us handing over anything about you.
What the site stores in your browser
- Your saved buildings, notes and stages. Local to your browser.
- Preferences such as light or dark mode and the filters you last used.
- Your advertising choice, so you are not asked again on every page.
- A sign-in token, only if you have signed in.
Clearing your browser's site data removes all of it. If you are signed in, anything already synced stays in your account until you delete it.
What we store on our servers
Only what a signed-in account needs: the email address on your Google account, an internal account identifier, and whatever you have saved — buildings, notes and the stage you marked each one at. Nothing else. There is no profile built about you, no behavioural tracking, and no analytics product running on this site.
That data is held in a Supabase database hosted in Canada, and is readable only by the account it belongs to. To have it deleted, email [email protected] from the address you signed in with, and we will remove it.
Advertising
This site is free, carries no subscription, and is paid for by advertising. Ads are served by Google AdSense, a third-party advertising network.
Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Its use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
The choice we ask you for
Before any ad request is made, this site asks whether Google may use what it already knows about you to choose which ads you see.
- Agree — Google may use its existing profile of you. The ads are more relevant and they pay us more.
- Use basic ads only — ads are chosen from the page you are reading and nothing else. They still pay, just less.
Either way, we send Google nothing about you. The targeting, where it happens, is done from information Google already holds, not from anything this site hands over. Your choice is remembered in your browser; clear your site data and you will be asked again.
What this site is
torontopolis.ca is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the City of Toronto. Building information comes from the City of Toronto Apartment Building Registry and RentSafeTO evaluations, published under the Open Government Licence – Toronto. The inspection scores are the City's own and are reproduced as published; this site does not rate, rank or grade any building.
